Detailed Design and Documentation
The Central Highlands Connectivity Improvement Project (CHCIP), a collaboration with the World Bank (WB) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT), is a USD154 million project contributing to the development of the Asian Highway system through the upgrade of 150 km of National Highway 19 (NH19). The project will facilitate connection with neighbouring countries and strengthen the transport and logistics connectivity from the Central Highlands to the Central Coastal Provinces. Aus4Transport is funding and directly assisting with the Detailed Engineering Design, the procurement documentation and the environmental and social planning.

Strategic Intent
Ensure that the social dimensions of the project are comprehensively addressed, including environmental risks, gender, social inclusion, resettlement and ethnic minority development.
Decrease the amount of the World Bank loan and improve the quality of the Project design, reducing the pre-construction period that leads to the tendering of the civil works.
Provide a road that incorporates international traffic safety standards, and is climate resilient and environmentally sustainable, reducing potential risks posed by storms, floods and landslides.
Support sustainable growth of Vietnam’s transport infrastructure sector, contributing to economic development and poverty alleviation.
Activity components
The activity is divided into engineering and non-engineering components, both of them being undertaken through different phases and stages, and each one of these components comprising several tasks and requiring strong collaboration between stakeholders.
