The first civil works contracts for the upgrade of NH19 expected to be awarded in June

The contracts to start physical works for the two priority packages of the Central Highlands Connectivity Improvement Project (CHCIP) are expected to be signed in June, allowing construction to commence in the third quarter of this year.

The Detailed Engineering Designs of four non-priority packages have already been completed and were approved by the Ministry of Transport during the second half of May. The two remaining packages are scheduled to be finalised in the early days of June, with this milestone marking the completion of Aus4Transport’s contribution to this major project.
The Government of Australia, through the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, in its partnership with the Ministry of Transport to support the development of Vietnam’s transport sector, has funded the Detailed Engineering Design and Documentation for the upgrade of 150 km of National Highway 19 (NH19).

E-government is becoming a tangible reality for MOT with the  Transport Management Information System

The Beta Version of the Transport Project Management Information System (TPMIS) has been finalised and it is ready to be tested.

This online interactive platform will allow MOT to easily collect and manage all information regarding transport investment projects, supporting Vietnam in its efforts to achieve a necessary integration between the Ministry of Transport and the central Government e-Procurement and e-Government platforms.

The Beta Version of the TPMIS has been developed, under the Aus4Transport program, in a joint effort between TCQM (Department of Transport Construction and Quality Management), ITC (Information Technology Centre), and the IT firm Grooo International. Next steps include testing of the system, which will be piloted in 5 Project Management Units (PMUs), and training for all stakeholders involved.

Aus4Transport’s Sector Standards for social and environmental impact assessments are almost ready to see the light

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) continues to take important steps towards a greener and more inclusive Vietnam. MOT, through the Department of Environment (DOE), is on the final stages of revising the Sector Standards (TCCs) that will bring a streamlined process for environmental and social impact assessments of transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam.

The three administrations concerned: roads, railways and inland waterways, are already in the last stages of reviewing the Draft TCCSs, Toolkits and Related Learning Resources. Once this step is complete, the materials will be used in a MOT project for practical application and learning before distributing the Final TCCSs to all relevant stakeholders involved in transport infrastructure projects.

68,000 people in Northwest Vietnam to benefit from Aus4Transport HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking Awareness Campaign

As part of the Detailed Design and Documentation (DDD) of the Northern Mountain Provinces Transport Connectivity Project (NMTCP), Aus4Transport has recently developed an HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking Awareness Campaign, soon to be implemented across several towns and districts of the provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Yen Bai.

The Northwest region of Vietnam will be facing increased risks during and after the construction phase of the NMPTCP. That is why Aus4Transport is working hard to build awareness and create a better understanding of these threats and dangers, mitigate their potential impact and, in turn, reduce the risk of HIV, AIDS, and human trafficking in the Project area.

Aus4Transport joins the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week on 17-23 May

Vietnam ranks as the second country in South East Asia with more people losing their lives on the road.

Recent data shows that Vietnam has an alarming average of 8,000 casualties every year from road crash accidents, with 1 person dying or getting injured every minute.

Even though road accident-related deaths have been consistently decreasing in Vietnam since the Government introduced more strict measures to enforce the use of helmets for all motorcycle users, including children, and prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol, it is estimated that road crashes in 2021 will still cost Vietnam approximately 7,000 lives and 10 billion USD (230 VND trillion)

Aus4Transport stakeholders #ChooseToChallenge Gender Inequality

Covid-19: Leaving no one behind. Creating a more inclusive transport sector for a more equitable Vietnam

As Coronavirus has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable social groups in Vietnam, Aus4transport, as a key element of the Vietnam COVID-19 Development Response Plan launched by the Australian Government, continues to introduce an inclusive social perspective across all its activities.

While Vietnam has managed to contain the COVID-19 outbreak so far, its economy has taken a significant hit, with transportation and tourism among the most affected sectors. With its double-sided strategy of battling the virus and simultaneously maintaining a strong and open economy, Vietnam has recorded less than 8,000 Coronavirus cases and fewer than 50 deaths (up to June 2021).

At the same time, the National GDP still grew by 2.9%, which is an admirable achievement in the context of a global pandemic, but nevertheless, is the lowest recorded economic growth rate for Vietnam in the last 30 years.

The Program, through activities in its two branches, STREAM A: Facilitating Project Development and STREAM B: Unlocking opportunities through Innovation, continues to focus on addressing the needs of the most vulnerable groups and providing guidance for long-term approaches and practices that will positively influence social inclusion and improved livelihoods.

Aus4Transport is currently delivering several Stream B activities directly contributing to a higher consideration and implementation of social safeguards policies across the Vietnamese Transport Sector . Besides these, the Program’s two main engineering activities are also actively mainstreaming strong measures to mitigate social and environmental impacts of road construction projects and extend the socio-economic benefits of improved connectivity to vulnerable groups in affected areas.
